Family Theme At Lake Celebration
Newcastle Herald
Thursday December 5, 2002
NEW Year will have a family focus in Lake Macquarie this year.
Concerts, fireworks, art exhibitions and children's workshops are among the events on the entertainment calendar.
A major attraction will be the free family concert and fireworks spectacular on the Warners Bay foreshore on New Year's Eve.
The Warners Bay Chamber of Commerce will coordinate the event for the fifth time, with Mr Wong's Fireworks lighting up the sky at 9pm.
Before and after the display, music will be provided by popular trio Innerversion.
Adding to the entertainment will be a holiday carnival with a jumping castle, giant slide and children's rides.
There will also be plenty of opportunity for fun on the lake, using equipment available for hire from 2000 Leisure Hire.
The Esplanade will close from Lake to King streets from 7pm until the end of the event.
Supporters include Dowling Real Estate, Mac's Home Timber and Hardware, Bayviews Restaurant, Mission Employment and other businesses in the area.
The New Year will also receive a rousing welcome further around the lake, at the Swansea/Caves Beach Summer Fun Festival on the foreshore at Swansea RSL.
The evening is being organised by Swansea and Caves Beach Combined Christian Churches.
Kids' games, rides, food and entertainment will be on the agenda, with B & L Fishing and Cruises offering greatly reduced rates for family cruises on the lake.
Swansea RSL will sponsor a 'Little People's' fireworks show at 9pm, with another display at midnight.
The festival, which will start around 6pm, has the support of a number of organisations including Swansea RSL, Lensworth Wallarah Peninsula, Swansea McDonald's Family Restaurant, Swansea Coles, Beechwood Homes, Caves Beach Bakehouse, Caves Beach Meats and Caves Beach Hotel.
